The United Kingdom produces a high crop yield every year. Some of the highest in the world. According to the National Farmers Union we produce over 20 million tons of grain and a combine harvester can do the work of one thousand men! I have seen plenty of this seasonal activity over the last few weeks whilst out walking with my Fujifilm GFX50R and GF32-64mm lens.
It appeared that this particular harvesting machine had broken down, so wasn’t doing the work of any men. As I passed I could see someone frantically trying to start the engine. He was repeatedly pulling a cord which reminded me of how I used to start an old petrol grass cutting mower. It was an extremely hot morning and I didn’t envy his labour in those conditions. I hope he had some success after I departed as there was still a large area of the field that needed to be harvested.
A little further on I met this young lady out riding her horse.
Another Day, another walk and another field, later in the afternoon this time. Collecting in the harvest is always a busy time for the farmer. It involves long hours, careful planning and good weather.
