Pre-Wedding Shoots
Some photographers call them engagement shoots, I prefer pre-wedding shoots. To me it’s an opportunity to get to know the couple a little better before the wedding day. For the couple it is a chance to experience how I will work with them at the wedding rather than me just turning up cold on the day. I have photographed hundreds of weddings now and I always find that the couples that have had pre-wedding shoots are more relaxed in front of the camera compared to those who haven’t!
A lot of my work is spontaneous and on any wedding day I am not constantly posing the couple. However there is usually a period after the ceremony where I will take the couple away from the guests and shoot some photographs with just the two of them. Rather than rigidly posing them I gently direct them to get the best natural looking photographs making best use of the conditions and surroundings at the venue. We do the same during the pre-wedding shoots and it does help the couple to relax during their wedding as they know what to expect and it helps their day run more smoothly.
Recently I have completed several pre-wedding shoots which have included babies and young children. Sarah & Matt’s pre-wedding shoot last week was one such occasion and although it was a rather gloomy day weather wise we met at Trent Park near Cockfosters tube station. I have driven past the park many times and often wondered what it was like and I was surprised at how extensive the grounds are and it is definately worth a return visit on a brighter day.
Little Emma was a delight to photograph and although there was the constant threat of rain we managed to get some lovely shots of Sarah Matt & Emma together as well as some of Sarah & Matt on their own. Sarah & Matt are getting wed at one of my favourite local venues Coltsfoot where I have photographed many couples over the years.
